Procrastination

to procrastinate

- to put off doing something, especially out of habitual carelessness or laziness.

- to postpone or delay needlessly.

This is a definition given by the dictionary. But what does it look like in practice? The video above shows exactly what procrastination is in real life. It`s reading a book, cleaning your apartment, taking a bath, going for a walk, watching tv, doing all these things which normally may not be something you like to do (like cleaning) but they seem seem to be fun when you have something more important to do. Procrastination is me, writting a few post at one, because I`ve waited for the last minute to do that. (Believe me, my room have never been so clean). I find this issue very interesting. Why do I do that? Of course there were times when I did something in advance. It felt great, I was prepared, had free evening, I was relaxed. But somehow all of this wasn`t enough to motivate me for the future. If there was some kind of training to stop being a procrastinator I would, for sure, postpone it until someone would threaten me that it`s really a deadline to do that.
Or maybe it`s just the way I am, maybe I was born like that and I shouldn`t change it, just accept it.
But what if I tell myself that just to justify my actions, and still be a procrastinator? Every semester I promise myself to study systematically, but during finals end up with panic attacks and way too much work to do.
Unfortunetely procrastination is becoming very common nowadays, I believe it`s due to new technologies which consume more and more of our time and are a perfect distraction.

Disco fever

If there was such a possibility I would love to live in the United States in 70s. That was the time when disco music peaked in popularity. I`m always absolutely amazed when I watch movies like `Saturday Night Fever`. That must have been the best parties of all the time. I hope you`ve all seen John Travolta taking over the dancefloor in this movie, if not, I`m posting a video below. Even their outfits were fantastic! How great it would be to see all these african-american people dressed in sequins, bell bottoms and coroful shirts with necklines up to their navels. Personally I don`t like dancing, but when I hear disco music playing I just start moving to the beat without even realising it. This kind of music makes me immediately happy and full of energy. It`s very helpfull especially in the morning when I have difficulties with starting my day. My favourite artists are The Bee Gees, KC and the Sunshine Band, Donna Summer, Kool and the Gang and Boney M but there were so many many more. I hope one day I can participate in huge party inspired by 70s, where roller skates are welcomed, since I`ve never been to one before.

Ian Curtis

Ian Curtis was the leader of a band called `JOY DIVISION`.They never really had a chance to become well known because Ian committed suicide right before their tour in the USA. He was born in Manchester, and died in small town called Macclesfield. I don`t remeber when I started to listen to Joy Division but it was many years ago for sure. They play rather depressing and sad sounds, it`s not for everybody. Their best known song is called `Love Will Tear Us Apart`. As I said before they have never became as popular as they could be. Ian had some problems with health (he suffered from epilepsy) but also he was not able to deal with his life. For ones who want to know him better there is a great movie which shows a little bit of his life called `CONTROL`.
I`ve spend some time in Manchester and also visited Macclesfield a couple of times. It was a really unbelievable experience to walk the same streets as he did, see the school he graduated from.
I visit his grave almost every year. It has words `Love Will Tear Us Apart` written on it which has symbolic meaning but also correspond to Joy Division`s best know song.
I really like to take long walks in Macclesfield, listen to Joy Division. It`s amazing how you can
actually understand how he felt when he was wandering around the same rainy and sad town 40 years ago.
It`s sad that the world never had a chance to get to know them better, but on the other hand I`m glad,
because that way my experience is more unique.

Here you can see a cover of their album `UNKNOWN PLEASURES`. This graphic accually became quite popular and has been put on t-shirt ect. (Although I don`t like when people wear it without knowing the band).
